How do I request a Re-Index from Google?

Google automatically re-crawls websites regularly. However, if you’ve recently made important updates, such as fixing malware, updating metadata, or changing content, you may want to speed up the re-crawling process so the latest version of your site appears in search results sooner.

Below are the recommended steps to help accelerate Google’s re-crawl:

1. Clear All Website and Server-Level Cache

Cached content can cause Google to fetch outdated versions of your site. Make sure all layers of caching are cleared:

  • WordPress cache (from caching plugins like WP Super Cache, W3 Total Cache, LiteSpeed Cache, etc.)

  • Server-level cache (e.g., Varnish, Nginx cache, hosting-level caches)

You can follow this guide for detailed steps on clearing WordPress cache: https://blogvault.net/how-to-clear-wordpress-cache/

2. Request a Re-Crawl Through Google Search Console

Google Search Console allows you to manually request indexing so Google can fetch the latest version of your site sooner.

We recommend using the Sitemap submission method, as it prompts Google to re-crawl the entire website, not just a single page.

Follow this official guide on submitting a recrawl request: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6065812?hl=en

What Happens After the Re-Crawl?

Once Google’s bots complete the re-crawl:

  • Search results will begin showing your updated content

  • Outdated previews or metadata should be replaced

  • Any previously cached or infected pages (in case of malware cleanup) will be refreshed

Depending on Google’s crawl frequency for your site, this process may take anywhere from a few hours to several days.
